it is the role of the Sierra Club to promote sustainability;

the Sierra Club envisions a world where wilderness
areas and open spaces are protected, where oceans and streams are
clean and air is pure, where a healthy biosphere and nontoxic environment
inalienable rights; and |
| Whereas |
the Sierra Club favors progress which is measured by its long term value
to living systems rather than short-term value to the economy; and |
| Whereas |
the Sierra Club has always partnered with like minded organizations and
individuals in the pursuit of its primary goal of protecting the environment;
and |

the Sierra Club continually seeks to aid effective grassroots based organizations
and movements that strive to provide opportunities for open spaces
within a community; and |
| Whereas |
such open spaces contribute to the enhancement of property
values and serve as a place of refuge and solace to many living organisms
including humans; and |

the proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant as currently proposed would
usurp the land designated as open space/park by the Mare Island Reuse
Authority after ten (10) years of due consideration and public input,

that Solano Group of the Sierra Club join with other like minded groups such as the Vallejo for Community Planned Renewal in vigorously opposing the location of the LNG plant at the site currently proposed; and be it further |

that the Solano Group of the Sierra Club requests the Mayor and City Council of the City of Vallejo to end consideration of the proposed LNG plant; and be it further |

that the Solano Group of the Sierra Club requests the Mayor
and City Council of the City of Vallejo to entertain proposals for
projects on Mare Island which provide jobs and revenue while simultaneously
promoting sustainable living; and be it further |

that Solano Group of the Sierra Club requests the Mayor and City Council of the City of Vallejo to seriously consider the risks, negative impact to health and detrimental impact on property values; as well as the long term economic vitality of the community as it deliberates this critical decision; and be it further |

that if the City Council fails to heed to the voice of the community and continues to pursue the LNG project, the Solano Group of the Sierra Club will seek suitable assistance from the Sierra Club National Office and mobilize its 1,000 members in the County to actively combat the project. |
